8 Guards! Guards! This book introduces the Ankh-Morpork City Watch and is thought of highly by many a reader; a whole new world within the existing Discworld that readers have come to love is created in this novel. With new people such as Corporal Nobby Nobbs whose character develops along with the story, the reader gets to see another side of the Disc’s most famous city that hitherto has not been written about. Sam Vimes is the drunken head of the Watch and develops into one of the Discworld’s best-loved characters of all time. Corporal Carrot is recruited into the Watch in this novel, he is 6 feet tall but counts as a dwarf because of his upbringing; we also get to know Sergeant Colon and many of the more popular characters in later books are introduces here, plunged into the action with a dragon terrorizing the city, after a group steal a book called ‘The Summoning of Dragons’ from the wizards’ Unseen University.
