30 Thud! Miners and Rocks Koom Valley is what started the long history of animosity between dwarfs and trolls. The details of the battle itself are blurred, but that’s not important. For dwarfs and trolls the fact that it happened is enough to keep them fighting each other. In “Thud!”, they bring their fight to Ankh-Morpork and under the responsibility of Duke Samuel Vimes, Commander of the Watch. And he’s not about to let Koom Valley enter his streets. Vimes is adamant to stop centuries of grudges and hatred from rampaging through his city. To accomplish this, however, he needs to solve a high-profile political murder, try to remain objective and figure out what the ancient mystery surrounding Koom Valley entails. Fortunately he is aided by a dwarf, a troll, a vampire and a werewolf. Admittedly the dwarf may be a fairly tall human called Carrot, but their combined knowledge and skill will still prove invaluable. This dark novel sees Vimes at his most vulnerable, strongest and at his softest. It also explores the concept of a troll king, the legends of the dwarfs and the concept of Ankh-Morporkian bedtime stories. | | |
