12 Witches Abroad

This, obviously, is one of the witch books; the third Discworld novel to feature Granny Weatherwax and one where the reader really gets to know the witch characters, Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg and Magrat Garlick – the three witches of the countryside known as Lancre. Granny Weatherwax is an old school witch, what true witching is all about, she is the witch with authority and extra sensory powers. Nanny Ogg is rather crude, enjoys the odd flagon of cider and a dirty song, she’s down to earth and likes to get to the point. Magrat is the wishy-washy type; new age, rainbows and aromatherapy, at least she seems that way at first… In this novel fairy tales are becoming real; Magrat finds herself unexpectedly assuming the role of a Fairy Godmother with a mission to travel to Genua to intervene in the marriage of her goddaughter Ella and the Duc of Genua. The other two witches accompany her on the journey that is filled with fairy tale adventures and leads to a confrontation with an evil witch, Lilith di Tempscore, who is terrorising Genua and wants Ella and the Duc to be married for her own evil ends. The witches use all manner of tricks and cunning to combat the evil Lilith di Tempscore, even seeking the assistance of Erzulie Gogle, a Voodoo lady.
