Only a few expections and many dissapointments. One of them was by Nick Hornby, who could expect that? (It was &quot;How to be good&quot;, none of the main characters seemed to make much sense in a plot that was kickstarted by a deus ex machina that didn&#039;t even appear... maybe he didn&#039;t know how to write the main male character without explaining this sudden and radical change, so...<br />

      <content:encoded><![CDATA[If you&#039;ve listened to an <i>unabridged </i>audio book, does it feel the same to you as having read the book? Would you think of it the same of it as if you&#039;d consumed it with the eyes after having consumed it via your ears instead? <br />

I&#039;m not quite sure. I can&#039;t clearly point out any disadvantages hearing the unabridged book over having read it - except I was raised to value reading so much that I wouldn&#039;t say of myself I know a book, I&#039;d just say I listened to the audio version, as if it was...<br />

Sometimes I find that I am very reluctant to switch genres or authors. It&#039;s a periodic occurrence, (possibly in sync with the phases of the moon?) and I swing between two extremes. <br />
<br />
One extreme is reading and re-reading one book or that author&#039;s series, to the exclusion of all else (like eating, sleeping...). <br />
<br />
This often happens in that blurry sci-fi fantasy genre, where I get hooked on a series, or a writing style, and...<br />

The writing is crisp but soon becomes monotonous as he recounts events each sentence the same as the last. I stopped halfway through but it felt like a decent RPG retold by a fairly coherent teen. This book is a major hit in America, can the fantasy genre be in such a sorry state? (Hobbits were big when I was young -quote) It took him  over 20 years to finish the books. He had to redo the first couple as they were written as a young writer. He was inspired to finish the books off after being involved in a car accident, more of a wake up call as he didn&#039;t want to be  another author with an unfinished novel.  Well...<br />

It is complex, scary stuff with layers upon layers of meaning, humour, plot and sub-plot. Wolfe is a master.<br />
<br />
Try the &quot;Books of the New Sun&quot; as possibly the most acessible series (multi award-winning) and move on to the mysteries of the &quot;Long Sun&quot; and &quot;Latro&quot; series.<br />
<br />
These are not easy reads but they will reward you a thousand times over with the subtle complexities of the text....<br />

      <content:encoded><![CDATA[So, as I&#039;ve mentioned elsewhere, I&#039;ve begun re-reading the Wheel of Time, I&#039;ve caught up to where I&#039;d previously read, and am now in new territory with book 8 (Path of Daggers).  <br />

I understand Jordan&#039;s been given a very short time to live by his doctors, but is certain he&#039;ll have book 12 out before he dies, which will finish off the main storyline even if it doesn&#039;t address every plot thread.  (That&#039;d require a few more books, appearantly) <br />
